Red split pea soup or dhal curry as we call it for that comfort food on a rainy day 🍲🌧 Thanks to my mama for the recipe...so delish!💕
Ingredients:
Red split peas - about 1.5 cups
1 tbsp salt
1/4 tsp turmeric
4 cloves garlic smashed
1/2 inch ginger chopped
1 tsp mustard seeds
3-4 garlic diced
1 onion or 4-5 spring onion diced
1/2 tsp chili flakes
1 tsp cumin
Bring lentils to boil with salt, turmeric, smashed garlic and chopped ginger. Simmer on low for 15-20 minutes until softened.
In a separate pan, sauté mustard seeds, diced garlic, onions (I used green onions since that was all I had), cumin and chili flakes. Add to the boiling lentils. Garnish with cilantro and serve as a warm soup, with rice or with roti. Its delicious! :)
Note: You could also add in a few tbsps of coconut milk at the end if you have some on hand.
